Finding beauty in the anatomical and often grotesque nature of things Created by I first met Dehiscence through Hic Et Nunc, an early $XTZ marketplace almost archaic in terms of web3 time & space, where it was a minting free for all play-land. There were no guidelines, we were collectively making it up along the way with free token events taking place every so often and affordable themed events occurring throughout the weeks on H=N. The early gan-infused digital paintings by Dehiscence always stopped me in my tracks. Sometimes gruesome with melting body parts as seen in the work below, “Invisible Beauty V” the first 1/1 I collected from the artist in my personal Artwolf wallet, the work itself is felt through her blatant descriptions: “Our beauty doesn’t lie within our superficial skin. Our external facade ages, wrinkles, sags and rots. Our beauty lives within our psyche and our heart.” (Invisible Beauty V, 2021) When she began to mint collage works with vibrant colors, anatomical hearts, insect wings all given reverence within collages frames I knew I had found something special. Dehiscence could draw you in with the awe of nature, then hit you with a plank between the eyes to the reality of our human truths. Not only was Dehiscence one of the first collage artists to delve into fx(hash), a generative art $XTZ platform, with her MODERN TITANS series but she has continued to lead the way in collaborative NFTs with dozens of creators. Dehiscence is also a collector, supporting those who create and build alongside her, giving back to the metaverse through this reciprocity. My current favorite series by the artist is Brutal Nature, a collaborative generative project with OG gen artist Frank Force co-curated by Fort & the NFT Museum of S. Carolina in the United States, an incredible initiative spearheaded by Robert Matheson. The collection is a brilliant fusion of brutalist buildings & lush landscapes exploring the complex relationship between human consumption, its impact on the environment and the resilience of nature.
